I love to scrapbook. It is so much fun to put all of my memories of my two daughters into albums so that I can show them off to friends and families when they come over to visit. The problem that I face is that my daughters are also interested in scrap booking. They want to play with paper and every tool that I own.

While I love my daughters so much, the money I invested in all my supplies is not worth it to be ruined by their sticky hands. I put a lot of time and money into my books and I do not want them ruined. Therefore, I have to be careful where I store my supplies and when I work on my projects so that they do not get into them.

Good storage is the key to not "misplacing" my supplies and tools. Half of my closet in my bedroom is dedicated to all craft and scrapbook supplies. I have plastic totes that have lids on them to store my paper. The lids are stiff enough that the children cannot pull them off, plus they are hidden away in my closet so that they do not notice them.

I also have fabric totes that store tools. I have about 30 pairs of decorative scissors that I do not need them cutting with. Since my tools are in totes that they cannot see into, they forget that they are there and do not play with them.

Finding the right time to work on my projects is essential with the kids around all day. I tend to work on my projects late at night since I am a late night person and they go to bed early. When my kids were really little, I scrap booked during their nap time. If these are not options that would work for you, you can always try finding something to occupy them while you worked on your book.

Sometimes when they just have to have their hands in your work you are best off to get them involved. Teach them the proper way to use the tools, and let them work on their own project. Find photos that you will not be using that they can scrap. Children love crafts, and especially if it is made by themselves. Let them know that they can only work on their project with you around, so that they do not try and dig for your supplies.

Scrapping can be a lot of fun and with some supervision your children can enjoy it too. But, if they are just in it to ruin your supplies, you need to work around their schedule to get in as much time as you need to finish your books. Hiding your supplies will minimize their temptation to get their hands into something that they shouldn't.
