Scrapbooking, as with most craft hobbies, can be great outlet for your creative juices. That is, until you hit a roadblock and are left with a half-finished page in your hands. However, there are many simple tips and tricks to kick start your imagination and get you creating beautiful layouts in no time.

Look to Others

Often the source of creative block is boredom or repetition of the same idea over and over. Because you are only one person, you have only one perspective of the world. To get you looking at your project to a whole new way, try looking at the layouts of others. You can do this either online looking at blogs and galleries or by browsing through magazines focused on scrapbooking. Others have inspired some of my best layouts.

Look at the Ads

Along the same lines as the previous tip, peruse the Sunday ads and your favorite magazines, I bet you'll find some advertisements that really catch your eye. Take a closer look at those ads and think about what it is that interesting to you. See if there is a way to incorporate that into your layout. Perhaps it is the use of color or the placement of certain elements. Take the idea and make it your own.

Move Outside "The Box"

If you are like most scrappers, there is a particular item that you use all the time. It may be funky alphas, cool ribbons, or even a particular color scheme. It is your "go to item". Take your roadblock as an opportunity to move outside your comfort zone. If you are person who always writes paragraphs of journaling, try doing a page with just a title or no words at all. If you love using ribbon, try using buttons or torn paper embellishments instead. Use this time to try something new, you may find a new favorite.

Socialize

If you are in a position to do so, attend a scrapbooking party. The act of getting together with a group and scrapping together might be just what you need to get you scrapping again. It gives you a chance to see other people creating their own layouts and what materials they use. Seeing others work can be a great resource and you can ask input of those around you. New eyes might bring a great idea.

Let It Go For Now

If none of the above tips are working, take a break. Scrapping is supposed to be fun and enjoyable and by putting pressure on yourself it may turn into work. Take the unfinished project and put it away where you can't see it for a while. Some time away from it will allow you to look at it with fresh eyes and will hopefully give you the boost to complete your project.

Regardless of what or any tips you try, just remember to have fun that is probably why you starting scrapping in the first place. Have fun and get to scrapping those memories.
