Not only do three dimensional objects make attractive additions to any scrapbook, they also make a good way to keep our attention and are very attractive to the eye as well. As long as the objects you create aren't so 3-D that they immediately squish when you close your album, there is no reason why you shouldn't give the art of three dimensional embellishing a try.

When it comes to borders, we often resort to matting our pictures onto colored cardstock and than placing them on the background. But why not create a border that looks a bit more eye catching and exciting? Making your borders 3-D not only looks great, but it also focuses and pulls the eye toward the center of the border box, thus making your photography the star of the show.

Start by taking a piece of paper the length of your photograph and about two inches wide. Fold the piece of paper into four, vertically. On the fourth panel, apply some glue and than fold the piece of paper over so the first panel is now glued to the fourth panel. What you now have is a very long triangular tube with three sides. Make one more of the same size, as well as two other ones as long as the width or your photo. Apply glue to the outside of the photo and press your triangle tubes into the glue, creating a very attractive triangular border. You can make these as big or as small as you like, and can even be made by rolling the paper into straw-like tubes to create a more soft and elegant look.

If you are handy with paper folding, you may want to give Origami a try. Origami is the Japanese art of paper folding, and you can create some very lovely objects to adorn your scrapbooking pages. There are books dedicated to the craft, or you could check out a few websites for some helpful diagrams. You can create objects such as stars, flowers, animals, sailboats, pinwheels, and paper edges for your photograph corners.

If you have an outdoor scene, a great way to add life to your page is to create some three dimensional pieces of grass. Not only are these simple, but they are also flat enough that they won't be damaged when you close your album. With some green cardstock, cut out a few blade of grass. Start thick at the bottom, bringing them to a point at the top. Don't make the blade straight up and down, as even nature doesn't make grass this way, so give your grass a bit of a rounded edge. Up the entire center of the grass blade, score a line with a pair of scissors and bend slightly. The result is a three dimensional
