If you're like me, then you want to have a good way to store pictures without spending a lot of money. For me, that means scrapbooking. Let's face it: nobody wants to look through just envelopes of pictures. But if you sort through the best pictures and put them in a book, then it becomes something nice for your family to enjoy. Here are some tips to do this without hurting your wallet.
1. They are called scrapbooks for a reason. You can use scraps. Rather than buying fancy decorations about travelling, why not stick in your train/plane/bus ticket or your luggage tag? For pages about Christmas, cut up Christmas cards you've been given to use as decorations (this makes them both more meaningful and free). I've used unfolded paper napkins for background paper, aluminum foil for embellishments, and cut up tour guides for pictures. Be creative.
2. You don't need lots of fancy tools. You can get by just fine with a pair of scissors, a glue-stick, and some double-sided tape. Anything else is a luxury.
3. Don't print off your pictures until you know which ones you want. Then print the pictures you want in the sizes you want. This will save money and keep you from having lots of extra pictures floating around.
4. Keep an eye out for the books themselves when you're shopping. They can be pretty expensive, but you can often find them discounted in stores like TK Maxx.
5. Rather than spending a fortune buying individual sheets of background paper, consider other options. Either buy a pack in bulk or buy wrapping paper and cut out sheets to size. Then you have the rest of the roll left to use.
Just remember to be creative and have fun.
