I started scrap booking twelve years ago and for awhile I was just scrap booking things that were going on in my life. My family had grown apart after a huge family feud before I was even born. I had never met most of my aunts or cousins, but a few years ago my grandmother on my father's side passed away and the whole family showed up for the funeral. It seemed like the feud never took place and people couldn't remember why they had stayed apart for so long. After my Father's sisters saw my scrapbooks they said that I could have the boxes of family pictures that my grandmother had collected over the years. I was so excited to have all these missing pieces from my life that the day after company left I started scrap booking in earnest. I collected information and photos from every branch of the family and made everyone sit down and fill in the gaps. In the last four years we have all become incredibly close and visit each other three to four times a year, which isn't as easy as it sounds since we live all over the United States. The family book expands every month and my father and his siblings are starting journals that I will keep with the photo albums that will fill us in with their memories of the photos that I have scrap booked. Starting the family album was the best thing that my sister and I have ever done because it has brought our family together and we have had some wonderful times getting to know each other all over again. By preserving the past in scrapbooks we were able to save the future of our family.
