Themed scrapbook albums are a great pleasure to create, and to share. There are many different themes to choose from, I will share some that I have done and offer suggestions for other themes.
One of my favorite themes is choosing the title of a song or a book and creating an album around that. My first venture into this theme is an album called `Seven Little Australians'. That's the title of a very famous children's novel here in Australia - and guess what - we have seven little Australians too, except that they are all grown up now with little Australians of their own.
The photographs show our children growing up in the bush, enjoying picnics and school parades, making up their own games in the backyards, and the different houses we lived in.
I chose background paper in keeping with the theme, beautiful dusty outback shades decorated with Australian motifs like gum leaves and country scenes.
I used a lot of natural embellishments gathered from the bush, bits of bark and bottlebrush, to give the pages an authentic flavor. An album like this needs few commercial embellishments but it works well with beautifully decorated background pages and lots of journaling.
Not surprisingly, this is our kids' favorite album since it says so much about the good times we enjoyed with them, and the closeness of our family. You could create a retrospective album like this using the title of a beloved children's book such as Little Women and Little Men, How Much Do I Love You, or whatever means the most to your family. Choose background papers and embellishments that show the special qualities of the area your children grew up in, and tell the story in chronological order, from the youngest child to the oldest. You can include photos of special birthday parties, Easter egg hunts, school events, sports days and favorite games and toys. It is a beautiful way to celebrate your children.
The second title theme album was one I made for my mother. I chose the John Lennon song `In My Life' to celebrate her Golden Wedding anniversary. I handpicked pictures of her and my late father and placed them on the pages in chronological order from their courtship onward. The lyrics of the song were the thread that linked the pages together. Naturally, the embellishments were gold, and the journaling done in gold ink on black background pages. The album had a heritage look throughout.
