If you are about to begin your first scrap book, try not to take on too much at one time. I suggest you pick a particular subject. Choose a trip you took with your family or a family pets through the years.
Let's start with a family vacation to New York, for example. First collect all the photographs you have from your trip. The next thing you want to do is to collect an ticket stubs, Broadway programs, subway tokens, etc, that you may have around the house.
You can choose to go to a store which specializes in scrap booking only. I have found that those stores are expensive but can be handy if you are looking for something very specific.
If you are not looking for something very specific any large craft store has a scrap booking section. About once a month they have a 50% off sale. Not only is this a good chance to pick up on the things you need for this scrapbook book but it allows you to begin to collect things you might need in the future. Always have the basics, glue, cutter, acid free paper and markers. Then begin to create. There is no science to scrap booking. Just do what you think looks good to you and helps you to make a memory.
And remember, anytime scrapbook making material is on sale pick up things you think you might us. It does not take long to start a collection. It is addictive.
