Scrapbooking ideas:
In hindsight, I would've done things differently. Now that I've learned yet another thing the hard way, I would like to pass on tips that I wish I would've had.
-Don't do the 12 x 12 format because that automatically increases costs of sheet protectors, binders and other materials. An 8x11 format opens significantly more resources at less cost all around. The benefits of a smaller format is that you can create and print your own special papers, less cost of sheet protectors and binders, you aren't restricted to the larger sized papers, you'll use fewer embellishments because you'll be fitting the picture(s) and journaling into a smaller space, and it's easier to store.
This is the single most money saving thing. A 22 paged 12x12 completed binder might cost about $185 to make while an 8x11 binder might cost $25 to $60 at the most. I know this from experience!
-Basic, non specialized, tools that one might already have are: small hammer, 1/2 inch center punch, hole punches, wire stripper, sewing cutting board, pinking shears, a bedazzler kit, stapler, sewing needles, etc.
-Markers dry out and are usually a waste. Get mechanical crayons and colored pencil lead because these last longer and are often cheaper if you buy them at discount stores like Dollar General, Big Lots or Family Dollar stores.
-Use materials from other crafts you might do.
-Decide before hand a limitation of design types or colors. This will make matching colors easier and limit impulse buys of really eye-catching papers and embellishments. Are you into bright colors, muted colors, a distressed look, etc.?
-Buy (at the dollar stores) plastic organizers (coupon organizers) of different sizes. Use these to save ALL usable paper scraps. Scraps are good for making borders, accents, cut-outs, etc.
-Use found items or mementos like a worn playing card from your deceased mothers favorite deck or a lip-stick smudge from her favorite color. Thrift store or auction finds such as lace or buttons which might have to be removed from old clothing are good too. Look at regular office supply items as well. Old silk flower petals or leaves, grade reports, school hall passes, calender pictures, Sunday cartoon page cut-outs are all possibilities too. Look everywhere that scrapbooking retailers wish you wouldn't!
-Don't buy scraping tools from the usual places. For example, a hole punch at the scrap store might cost $11. But you can get something
